The underpass walls at 47th Street and Lake Park in Chicago were first painted in 1996 when Higher Gliffs, a non-profit youth organization, was granted permission by Chicago's Metra rail service.
They were maintained by Higher Gliffs, at no cost to Metra or the City.
They were a hip hop magnet drawing artists and admirers from all over the world.
They were destroyed without warning on September 7, 2006.
Nothing is left but blank walls.
