The walls on the South side of the underpass were called "Gallery of Style." They changed from time to time. Chicago artists did most of the work but young "writers" from California, New York and even Germany tried their hand.
The paintings on the South wall at the time of its destruction were dedicated to Attica, a Chicago artist who died tragically last year.
